Chaplains Corner – March 2023

Be Kind to One Another

The inspirational message for this season is to be kind to one another. Will you do me a favor? A favor is doing something nice for someone when you don’t have to. Kindness is doing another person a favor. Why is it so hard to be kind to people? It does not cost anything and, when done right, can change people’s lives, perspectives, demeanors, and situations. Kindness can improve one’s mood and put joy in your heart. Kindness is an act of love. We should invest in people by being kind to them and see what dividends come our way.

Kindness is defined as being gentle, friendly, generous, and considerate. Some synonyms for kindness are warm-heartedness, favor, and compassion. The Bible says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness…” (Galatians 5:22). It also says, “Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience (Colossians 3:12).

An act of kindness- King David asked one day, is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s (Saul’s son and King David BFF) sake? Ziba, the servant of Saul’s household, said, “There is still a son of Jonathan, Mephibosheth; he is lame in both feet and living in Lo Debar. King David had Mephibosheth brought from Lo Debar to him. King David told Mephibosheth I will restore all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat at my table from now on. So, Mephibosheth ate at David’s table like one of the King’s sons.” (2 Sam 9:1-12). Kindness is doing something nice for someone when you are not obligated to do so.

Bison, let us always take advantage of every opportunity to show kindness to someone. We should go beyond being kind to family members and fellow bison and include strangers. Not only do the acts of kindness bless the receiver, but they also bless the giver. Let us make the world a better place today, so when you start planting your April flowers this spring, sow some seeds of kindness and then see what a beautiful harvest it will be.

Be a blessing to someone today. Be kind to one another!
